How to choose the best detox diet that suits your needs

If you are trying a detox diet for first time, then you need to start with gentle cleanse that targets the intestines. If you focus on the liver first, the released toxins in your body may become reabsorbed if the bowels are not detoxified first and are not moving adequately enough to expel them.

A typical detox diet program may consist of fasting, specific diet, nutritional supplements, herbs, hydrotherapy, exercise, and sauna.

Fasting

You can either fast by drinking only water, juices or broths or by eating one kind of food exclusively for a period of time.

Fasting is great for detox and obtaining better health. While fasting your body adapts to the lack of incoming protein by drawing upon almost solely fat for energy. Your metabolism will slow, so physical and mental activity should be minimized during a fast.

Water fasting - you can consume only water. Your body doesn’t spend any energy on digestion of foods, resulting in more energy for your body to expel toxins.

Juice fasting - you can consume only fruit and vegetable juices. Because of the simple sugars they contain, these juices are digested very quickly with very small amount of energy.

Nutritional supplements

This type of detox diets require that you eliminate all food and only take nutritious powders with purified water, vitamins, and packaged protein snacks just in case you starve.

Hydrotherapy

You can detox your body through your skin pores by taking an Epsom salt and hydrogen peroxide bath. It’s best to take the bath at bed time, because it will make you feel relaxed and sleep like a baby.

Most Detox Diets last between 7 and 30 days. There are also quick detox diets for one and three days, and long lasting diets for 8 weeks.
