Depression Causes

You already know what the warning signs of depression are (from my previous post), but do you know what are the causes of depression?

Some types of depression are being developed within families, and that is why it’s been suggested that the depression causes of this biological vulnerability that can be inherited by family members in generations. This seems to be the case with a type of depression illness, called bipolar disorder.

Studies have found that members of each generation of studied families have developed bipolar disorder. The causes of depression are that those family members with the illness have a somewhat different genetic makeup than those who do not get ill.

However, not everybody with the same genetic makeup that causes vulnerability to bipolar disorder will have the illness. Apparently that’s because of additional factors, such as stresses at home, work, or school.

Major depression also seems to occur in generations of some families, but the causes of this type of depression are not so family connected, because it can also occur in people who have no family history of depression.

Major depressive disorder combines lots of warning sins of depression and no matter whether it’s inherited or not, the bad news is that it often causes changes in brain structures or function.

Possible causes of depression could be people’s low self-esteem, a pessimistic view over their own lives and surroundings, and of course – stress. Yet, it’s not very clear if these depression causes represent a psychological predisposition or an early form of the depression disorder.

Depression causes can be also illnesses such as stroke, heart attack, cancer, Parkinson’s disease, and hormonal disorders. They make the sick person apathetic and unwilling to care for his or her physical needs, and this way the recovery period is unnecessarily prolonged.

More emotional causes of depression could also be a serious loss, difficult relationship, financial problems, or any stressful change in life can trigger a depressive episode.
